In 1942 the battle of El Alamein took place. During this conflict two battles made up the battle of El Alemein. The battle occured in northern Africa in Egypt. Two of histories greatest generals clashed together in this battle. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel which was a great military commander but had to follow poor orders from Hitler and had limited resources, but he still clung on to his growned but was slowly was defeated. He did not like Hitler or the Nazi party. He was a great commander. The other general was general Bernard Montgomery. He was the pride and joy of the british army. He was the victor of El Alemein. Montgomery and Rommel were adversaries. They were the two main forces in Africa. Rommels Panzer Tank Army, and the British Eight army engaged each other at El Alamein. The battle became a stail mate and both sides lost momentum. Rommel had almost no rescources and the battle at El Alamein requirered the British to launch a second offenesive on the Germans. This would push the German occupation out of Egypt for good.
The second battle was fought to drive them out of Egypt away from the Suez cannal and would gain oil fields in the middle east. General Montegomery took the command during the second battle because general Claude Auchinleck was getting defeated time after time. This was the first Allied victory of the war.
