The Battle of Berlin
The Battle of Berlin was between April 16, 1945, and May 2, 1945. It began when two Soviet fronts attacked Berlin from the east and south.(The U.S. did not fight in Berlin.) The Germans were led by a person named Helmuth Weidling. They consisted of disorganized and badly equipped members. The Soviets advanced through the city, suffering heavy losses. The Soviets finally reached the city center and conquered the Reichstag on April 30. Hitler committed suicide on April 30, wanting to die by his own hands rather than the hands of the Allies. The Germans surrendered on May 2.
